i recently joined friendster and had found several old friends! what a delight! after years of "disappearing", it's nice to be "found" and to "find" friends you've shared moments of happiness, sadness, fun, boredom, clubbing, talking, going to class, and eating out.
kuya jay even sent me an email and said i only had about 30 friends. he had over 150 friends on his list. i think i know more than 150 people but i don't know if i could track down all my old close friends.
i've seen a lot of people i knew since high school and college. the thought of just emailing them out of the blue seems unusual. what would you think or how would you feel? you haven't seen this person for a long time. do we still have them same things in common? what happens after you reminesce the old times you have together? what's the next step?

Say 'No' to Bush
Protesters in New York Say 'No' to Bush
I just finished doing some housework and I am now surfing the net for some interesting news. I wish I was in New York so that I can participate in the protest for "Say NO to Bush." Seriously, I cannot imagine Bush being in the White House for 4 more years. There will definitely be another war and for some lame excuse.
Weapons of mass destruction? Saddam a threat? George W Bush is the only President who went to war without any international support. Even his father had international support when we tried to "free" Kuwait from Iraq. Basically, W just went to war without any game plan. Now, they're saying that the reports are inaccurate. How can he seriously go to war when reports are "inaccurate"? Thousands of innocent people have died - Americans, Allied forces, and Iraqis as well.
I'm registering to vote Democrat this year.

(that sounder complicated. prince: musicology concert
a couple weeks ago, the hubby and i went to the staples center to see prince perform. supposedly, this is the last time he will perform his "sexy" songs because he is at a different time on his life. he is now a spiritual person and has joined jehovah's witness.
morris day and the time was the opening for prince. that guy still has energy to perform. when he performed "the bird", everyone was on their feet. he still does the checking himself infront of the mirror and combing his hair routine.
prince performed most of his famous songs. on some, they just did the intro. they also performed some songs from his musicology cd. my favorite was the acoustic version of the concern especially when he sang "red corvette". we also enjoyed the audience participation.
overall, it was a great concert.

1st Anniversary

wedding cake
Posted by Hello
the hubby and i celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. as tradition goes, we saved the top of our wedding cake. we've had it in the freezer for this past year. i took the cake out of the freezer and defrosted it prior to dinner so that we can have cake for dessert with coffee.
everyone (couple friends) told us that if you didn't pack and seal the cake correctly, it will be soggy and the cake will taste bad. i've forgotten how i packed the cake. we came home from dinner and started unpacking the foil around the cake. after all the foil and saran wraps were removed, it appears that the only damage were the flower candies. it became soggy.
after slicing a piece, we were ready for the taste test. surprise! the cake tasted the same! i must've packed the cake tightly enough that there were no frost bites around the cake.
we made it!

american idol results
american idol is now over. fantasia barrino was declared winner last night.
last tuesday, each contestant had to sing three songs. after fantasia and diana sang their first songs, i thought that fantasia picked a bad song for the final. i could understand the logic of why she picked the song but the arrangement was just bad! don't get me wrong, it's a great song.
the next two songs basically were the clincher for her to be the next american idol. "summertime" is one of my favorite songs of all time. she did a great job. her version of "i believe" was so much better. i just didn't buy diana de garmo from the very beginning.
not that simon had any influence but i really didn't buy her cutesy 16 yr old from snellville, ga schtick. i was always rooting for fantasia from the very beginning.
it would've been a more interesting and gripping competition if it was fantasia vs latoya.
now... on to the next reality tv show. no apprentice. no american idol anymore.

a busy day
Saturday was a busy day. i went to work in the morning for at least a couple of hours. I initially intended to be at work by 10:00 AM. Since I woke up late, I didn't get to work until noon. After work, I went back home to get ready for our May gathering at Mike & Vic's house in Temple City.
This morning, we took our little furry boy Spenser to the vet for a checkup. After, we headed down to Redondo Beach to get some crabs. That was good! Since we were at the pier early, we were able to walk around with Spenser with no problem. It turns out that dogs are not allowed at the boardwalk and the pier.
We are now heading to Ikea then back. Hope we still have enough energy for tonight.

work , work, work
work has been hectic for the past few weeks. i don't know about my co-workers but i'm struggling to keep up with the new files i receive each day. for every file i close, a new one comes in.
i work in the insurance industry. my job function is very demanding. it' a constant time management issue and i've been doing my job for 7 years. each day is different no matter how much you want to stick to your schedule. you have to be flexible and be able to adapt to change.
a typical day is divided between your voicemail, returning calls, receiving calls, writing letters, sorting and matching your mail, reviewing files, etc.
my co-workers are pretty cool. some are pretty young but i could relate to most of them. my boss is very open, very knowledgeable and respected by a lot of her peers. she's the type of boss where you can just talk to her about anything.

american idol voting
it was down to the final three today for american idol - jasmine trias, diana degarmo and fantasia barrino. today's special guest was the legendary music mogul, clive davis. clive davis worked with some of the famous singers in music and discovered and launched the careers of singers such as whitney houston and alicia keys. (this info according to ryan seacrest' intro.)
each singer performed three songs - 1 song picked by the contestant, 1 song picked by a judge and the last by clive davis. now let's get to the performance.
>jasmine trias - i give props to my filipina homegirl for trying her best. this was definitely not her night. i think she had better performances than tonight. her first song basically killed it for her. why did she pick a whitney houston song? i love whitney houston songs but it's so hard to sing her songs unless you have the voice for it. she definitely can't hit the high notes. she did redeem herself but i think she's a goner.
>diana degarmo - diana definitely could sing and has the voice. i do agree with simon that she looks old for her age. when randy or simon said that she was shouting than singing, i think it's true. i definitely don't think she's ready. she probably needs training to give her more control.
>fantasia barrino - last but not the least is fantasia. girl got it going on! her get up today was a little different and her song was more up tempo. i wasn't very moved by her "greatest love of all" rendition. i think she did an awesome job when she sang "summertime" and the barbara streisand song. she's definitely more deserving to be the american idol.
how can i say that? a little bias, right? well, she's been consistent the whole entire competition. i personally think that it would've been a lot more interesting if the final was fantasia barrino vs latoya london.
after the shop, i tried to call 1-866-IDOLS-02. ryan seacreast said, "if you can't get through, please try again. you have two hours to vote after the show." easy for him to say! i tried to vote for fantasia for 30 mins while i was watching my favorite show, "law & order". did i get through?
NO WAY!!!! BUSY SIGNAL!!!!
well, hope fantasia and diana will be on the finals.

revlon walk
The hubby and I participated, along w/ my co-workers, two weeks ago at the 2004 Revlon Run/Walk. This will be my second year participating. All funds received are donated for breast cancer research. I recently found out from my friend, Cathy, that her mom is a breast cancer survivor. Therefore, I dedicated my walk to her mom. The hubby made his dedication to his two aunts.
It was a very warm day for a 5K walk. There were thousands of people at the LA Coliseum. The walk starts and ends at the LA Coliseum. When you cross the finish line, each participant is given a medal. The route is basically around the USC / LA Coliseum area.
I'll post some pictures once I've uploaded the photos to my server.

a "cold" week
I woke up last Tuesday sick as a dog. When I went to the bathroom to get ready for work, I realized I had a cold sore. Ugggh! I'm not particularly crazy when I have a cold sore since it's very unpleasant to look at. It's also very uncomfortable especially when you're eating.
Friday was my friend Cathy's B-day bash at this club in LA called "Pearl". I felt really tired after dinner and decided not to attend the festivities. I called and left a message on Cathy's cell, I told her that I owe her dinner.
It's been almost a week and I still feel tired and still have a residual on my cold. I still have a cold sore. Hope it heals soon.

Happy Birthday!!!
It's going to be a busy month. Starting off, it was my birthday on 05/02. The hubby initially had trouble on my birthday gift. I took off a half day from work and got myself a massage and manicure and pedicure. It turns out that he planned to get me a gift certificate at Burke Williams.
He then asked me if I needed anything... nothing really. Maybe a compact CD player for my desk at work. Almost all of my co-workers had a stereo/CD player on their desk.
Surprise! The hubby gave me an iPod!!!! I couldn't have gotten a better gift. In addition, I went to Fry's and got a matching speaker from Altec Lansing.

This is the last Friday Five posted on 02/20/04.

When was the last time you...
1. ...went to the doctor? Last year for yearly checkup and when I got a flu shot. This was the first year that I got a flu shot and didn't get sick. I'm encouraged... I'll probably get one this year again.
2. ...went to the dentist? May of 2003 prior to my wedding. I should make an appointment soon.
3. ...filled your gas tank? Last night in West Covina. I was at a Shell gas station when an intoxicated man suddenly approached me from behind and asked me for directions. His eyes were bloodshot and his words were slurred.
4. ...got enough sleep? Never! You could never get enough sleep.
5. ...backed up your computer? Hmmmm........

It's almost the end of February and it seemed that we just celebrated the New Year. Within a short period of time, certain number of events have occurred - anniversary, birthdays, christening and Valentine's day. Our loft is coming along. We are hoping to complete everything at the loft no later than March.

Intl Survey... US leading in fattest teens
I was a skinny kid growing up right until maybe 7 years ago when I first got together with the hubby. Also, as you get older, your metabolism changes. It's much harder to lose weight now compare to when I was in my early 20s. My doctor always say that the only way you'll lose weight is to eat a balanced meal with a good proportion of food and exercise. No diet ever works.
I certainly agree that eating fast food is a factor of the obesity in children. Most people in the United States, not just children, are probably bigger and heavier than people in Europe. It's easy to just come home, order something to go and eat while watching TV or play games.
What the article didn't mention that I think is a factor in obesity is that most food portion served in the United States is bigger in comparison to food served in other countries. When you go to a fast food restaurant, the cashier will ask you if you want to "Supersize" your food for xxx amount. As an example, you can get a medium soda for 99 cents. But for 25 cents more you can "Supersize" it.

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Teenagers in the United States have higher rates of obesity than those in 14 other industrialized countries, including France and Germany, a study of nearly 30,000 youngsters ages 13 and 15 found.
U.S. teens were more likely than those in other countries to eat fast food, snacks and sugary sodas and were more likely to be driven to school and other activities, contributing to a more sedentary lifestyle, said co-author Mary Overpeck of the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

Blog...
Maintaining a blog is definitely challenging. You have to constantly think about what you want to write about. You definitely want to make it interesting so that people would go back to your site and read what you have to say or ramble about.
Recently, I regularly read Shannon's blog. Shanny's blog is good because it's very honest. (Although she had to make changes for some important reason.)
Two friends also recently created a blog. I'm not sure on whether they would want me to mention the names and link to their blog. And I would not mention it to prevent any issues. (They know what I mean if they read this).
Another blog that I regularly read is my bro's blog, Manny. He's busy with work but I loved his blog. Especially when he writes the poems. He'll make a good writer, I think.
Well, I'll mention Papa's blog. (That's what we'll call him now until I find out if it's ok for him to mention his name.) I liked Papa's blog. His blog is very interesting and descriptive. I especially liked his blog when he talks about his kids. Having children is a big responsibility. We have a puppy now and it takes a lot of work. But having kids is a higher level.
Another blog I liked is Kenji's blog. (It's not his real name but that's what we'll call him for now). Kenji likes to travel. I'm encouraging him to post his photos of his travels. As I read his blog, I think some people who know him may find it offensive. Why? Well, he's really writing about what he really thinks about the people he writes about. No holds barred as you may say. Especially about a SuperHero that he talks about. (He likes comics so I'll just make that reference.)Hhhmmm.... I don't think he's being malicious or wants to offend people. I guess sometimes the truth hurts.
Well, speaking of real feelings. My blog is pretty plain. I think that I'm afraid to write my true feelings, emotions and perspective on things. Maybe I'm afraid of criticism.

A Brand New Year .... 2004
It is almost the end of January. 2003 has been a good year. The hubby and I got married last May after being together for six years. We also got Spenser ( the lab) last August. The year went by really fast. Now that I'm married, my perspective has changed. I definitely would like to be more responsible and prepare for the future if we are going to have children in the future.
Looking back, I definitely was not as responsible when I was single and before I was with the hubby. You never really think about important things until you meet someone you truly love and care about. When you're with someone, you think that you love and care for that person. It's all a matter of perspective then you find out it's really a false love .... caring for someone for the wrong reasons. (Am I talking about someone I knew?)
Well, that was the past. Now, we have to work on my New Year's resolutions which is the following:
1. Lose Weight - This would be challenging and a lot of work.
2. Pay debts - I would probably be forever in debt. My ultimate goal is to be debt free and pay everything in cash.
Unless I wind the lotto.
3. Attend School - We need to save money for this so I can finally attend culinary school.
Well, that's it for now.

At this moment, what is your favorite...
1. ...song?
I don't really have a favorite song at the moment but I'm leaning towards the new song/remake of the song from Talk Talk by No Doubt. The video was pretty good, I actually just saw it at MTV Jams over the weekend.
2. ...food?
Korean BBQ... yum yum! We've been going to Korean BBQ for about once a month. It's really delicious.
3. ...tv show? American Idol and Law & Order.
4. ...scent? I don't know about scent. But my current perfume is "Bulgari". I might switch either to Tiffany or Ralph Blue soon.
5. ...quote? None at the moment.

What one thing are you most looking forward to . . .
1. ...today? The weekend. The weekend are the two most precious days to me. I get to stay up all night on Friday doing whatever I want and not worry about waking up early. I get to spend time with my hubby and my lab. It's also a time to visit family, run errands, sleep, relax, watch tv, play games, etc.
2. ...over the next week? Over the next week, I intend to arrange and organize my schedule including working out. I haven't worked out for awhile and the weight I lost previously is now back.
3. ...this year? My goals this year are to lose weight, save money and pay more debts.
4. ...over the next five years? Have a family and travel.
5. ...for the rest of your life? Undecided. Each year, my priority and goals changed. The hubby and I are constantly planning our future for our family.
